Most Christians believe in spiritual warfare in the abstract. We affirm it in church. We sing about it in worship songs. But when it comes to actually praying spiritual warfare prayers, many of us go quiet, unsure of what to say, suspicious of anything that feels theatrical, or just genuinely afraid of stirring something up.

It is not a performance. You do not have to shout. You do not have to use special phrases. The enemy does not respond to volume; he responds to authority.
It is not demon-hunting in everything. Not every bad day is a demonic attack. Sometimes you are tired, hungry, hurt, or just human. Wisdom is knowing the difference.
It is not a way to manipulate God or force outcomes. It is alignment with what He is already doing.
Before you pray: the foundations
Before you start declaring anything against the enemy, get your own house in order. Spiritual warfare from a compromised position is exhausting and ineffective. The order in scripture is always: submit yourselves to God, then resist the devil (James 4:7). Both steps. In that order.
1. Confess. Anything you are holding onto that should not be there, bitterness, secret sin, unforgiveness, is leverage for the enemy. Get it out into the open with God first.
2. Forgive. Unforgiveness is one of the biggest open doors for spiritual attack in a believer’s life. Forgive even when you do not feel like it. It is for you, not for them.
